Dr. Tiffany Tang
Having moved around Canada since childhood, Dr. Tang fell in love with the warm, welcoming city of Guelph when she began working here over 20 years ago. A long-time associate at the practice, she is now the proud owner.
Dr. Tang is a spicy food fanatic and a couple of her favourite spots around town include Na Ha Thai’s Kitchen and Crafty Ramen. She likes to offset her love of good food by sportsing poorly on the weekends, playing ball hockey and ice hockey. Most of the time though, you’ll find her with a coffee in her hand, cheering on her kids at the soccer pitch, hockey rink or rugby field!
The best part of her job is connecting with patients, looking after their eye concerns, and sharing a great “dad” joke.
Dr. dana smart
Born and raised in Guelph, Dr. Smart returned after eight years in Waterloo, drawn back by family and the easy mix of green space, arts, and familiar faces that make the city feel like home
She loves that optometry allows her to work with a diverse demographic. Dr. Smart is especially passionate about ocular disease management and takes pride in making patients feel listened to, never rushed. She also wants everyone to know that yes, almost everybody has a little astigmatism.
Dr. Smart’s weekend must-haves include a walk with her rescue dog, Soda, at the Arboretum, and dinner with family. She’s a fan of summer vibes at The Boathouse Tea Room, and winter nights at The Bookshelf. Also, if everyone shows up on time, her day is automatically 10/10.
Dr. rachel bruns
Dr. Bruns joined Royal City Optometry in 2022. She grew up in Newmarket, then came to Guelph for her undergraduate degree and has wanted to live here ever since (and who can blame her?).
After completing a Masters of Vision Science from the University of Toronto, Dr. Bruns decided that she wanted a more hands on approach to eye care and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. She enjoys all areas of optometry, but especially pediatrics and working with our young patients to see their very best.
Dr. Bruns spends her free time renovating her “fixer upper” house and raising her young family. She loves a great cappuccino from Why Not Italian? (our neighbours) and you might run into her La Cucina where she will be enjoying their pasta and dreaming of a vacation in Sardinia.
betty
If Betty had her perfect day, it would probably involve a black coffee, a wander along one of the city’s trails and a good book. After moving here from Milton, she fell in love with Guelph’s welcoming community and the mix of city life with a small-town feel.
Betty brings that same warmth into the clinic every day. She loves getting to know patients and helping them understand that eye health is about much more than just seeing clearly. One of her favourite parts of the job is creating those little moments that make people smile.
When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll usually find her quilting, knitting, reading a good book, or supporting local favourites like The Fat Duck Gastro Pub and Guelph Tool Library. She also firmly believes that great eyewear should feel timeless because if you’re wearing it every day, you should love it every time you catch your reflection.
christiaunna
Born and raised in Guelph, Christiaunna loves the homey vibe of the city and is always happy to point people toward local spots like Atmosphere Cafe for a delicious meal, great service and a good excuse not to cook.
She got into eyecare through an opportunity to work at her childhood optometrist’s office and quickly realized she loved working with people just as much as learning about the industry. Around the clinic, she enjoys helping patients feel relaxed and comfortable — especially the ones who arrive before their caffeine has kicked in.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find her reading fantasy novels, sewing, hanging out with her cats and dog, or spending Sundays at her parents’ house for family dinner. She’s also convinced that a double-double, coloured pens and her trusty notebook can solve most of life’s problems.
Jessica
Jessica grew up in Fergus but moved to Guelph because it had the perfect balance: big enough for great restaurants and coffee shops, but small enough that a “quick errand” usually turns into running into someone you know.
As one of the first people patients meet at the clinic, she loves making people feel comfortable, welcomed, and genuinely cared for. After working in pharmacy, Jessica moved into eyecare looking for something more personal and relationship-focused.
Outside the clinic, she’s usually recommending spots like Naha Thai's Kitchen, Red Brick Cafe, or Miijidaa Café + Bistro, reading a good book with an iced capp made with chocolate milk, or reminding herself that a fish is probably the ideal level of pet responsibility.
Leanna
Leanna didn’t exactly plan on a career in eye care. It started with a part-time job in a clinic with her mom, and quickly turned into something she genuinely fell in love with. Now at Royal City Optometry, she gets to combine her love of people, eyewear, and nerding-out over optics.
Originally from Etobicoke, she moved to Guelph while pregnant with her second child, looking for a smaller, more connected community and found exactly that. Now living in Fergus, she’s still constantly in Guelph, whether it’s at local markets, at Fusion Authentic Indian Cuisine, or just enjoying everything the city has to offer.
Her favourite part of the job is the mix of education and connection: helping patients understand their options, find frames that feel just perfect, and catching those unforgettable “I can see!” moments. Her second favourite part is listening to Betty battle the office paper shredder.
